BIOGRAPHY

Daniel Yocum (b. 1994) is an American artist whose work is heavily influenced by the New York School. With 20 years of experience working across a wide range of mediums, Yocum’s expansive visual practice reflects his self-taught background and diverse inspirations, including Philip Guston, Cy Twombly, Robert Crumb, and Andy Warhol. Born in Kentucky and currently based in South Florida, Yocum grew up immersed in an industrial landscape, where his father worked in a factory that produced loudspeaker cones. Surrounded by assembly lines, black pulp splattered on raw cloth, and machinery, Yocum spent much of his childhood creating art. His experiences in this gritty environment, as well as time spent near a used car lot, have profoundly shaped his distinctive figurative abstract expressionism. His work samples imagery of cars and flowers, blending them into a dynamic, hip-hop-inspired frenzy, with a focus on working primarily on the floor.
